1000 yards of hand spun yarn from
this roving, fingering weight, washed and soaked in alum and cream of tartar. I spun this on my wheel last week. I usually use a drop spindle, but not for this much yardage...
Big pot of simmering water and Dawn dish soap...
Little baskets of this
fleece (belonging to a sheep named Pretty Girl) from
Pitchfork Ranch, soaking in hot, Dawny water...
What in the world am I up to?? More later!
My curiosity is piqued! (did I spell that right?)
ReplyDeleteSounds like dye-works to me! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's a good day to dye?
ReplyDeleteFor a class I took on prepping fleece we used a rubbermaid storage bin with small holes in the side, it worked great and we were able to clean the whole fleece by quartering it. Nothing down the drain, which I hear is a good thing. :) I look forward to seeing what you do with your new yarn.
ReplyDeleteIs it two-ply? I'm giggling to myself thinking about spindling 1000 yard of two-ply.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm quite mad.
Looking forward to see what you're going to do next.
Denise,
ReplyDeleteYes ma'am. 2-ply it is!
Fleegle and Andrea,
But of course, it is always a fine day to dye!
~S,
I could always use a better way to wash fleece, because I hate to do it (but actually do a pretty good job...) I am done for this project, and the fiber is very nice.
What an interesting way to clean fleece! I've never seen this one before :-)
